Beyond the sea

Monday, July 12, 2010
On Wednesday, I did another photoshoot with Hanna. Last time we didn't get to spend too long, so I wanted to do a part two of the shoot-same location, same time, etc. This time she brought this ridiculously cute skirt and I brought the lace top for her to wear.

I was so stressed out that it wasn't sunset-y like the time before. With San Francisco weather, you never know if it'll be foggy/misty/cloudy (which it is 90% of the time) or sunny. And the weather was foggy, even though the forecast said it would be sunny.

Even so, I think the shots came out nice. Let me know what you think as this isn't my usual style!

It was a good chance for me to experiment with something other than glowy/backlit lighting. One of my goals is to be more versatile, so this was the perfect opportunity.

I am going to be shooting with Hanna so much more this summer, she is the perfect model :) I couldn't be happier to have found her.

I love the last one. I think the weather was a little blessing in disguise! It forced you to be out of your comfort zone and look how great it turned out!

Not too sure about the first one. (I almost feel rude saying this because everyone else is so laudatory - but an opinion is supposed to be expressed) It's a bit flat and doesn't show her best angles compared to the other pictures. The other photographs are absolutely gorgeous, especially the last one. Good model, good photographer and great photographs.

that last photo belongs in a magazine. my goodness. i hope this doesn't weird, but i would love a big print of that hanging on my wall - it's so dreamy!

thanks for sharing with us. <3

i like the composition of the third one(sitting on rock) and the last one(running).

the first one would be nicer if increase a little more brightness:] afterall, it is a great capture of the moment, very soft and innocent like:]

about the one lying down, i think it needs a lil more contrast, if you use Adobe lightroom, try turning up the fill light? just guessing:]

but very great and good job getting out of your comfort zone!:] I need to do that too and for me it would mean gettin a model.:}

i just updated a few posts on my blog, FOOD PORN this time lol. come check it out :]

@Neon Enlightenment: Thank you for your opinion, I'm not in the least bit offended :)
I hemmed and hawed at the first photo, actually, but now I kind of like it. It's a bit of an acquired taste for me haha :) The more I look at it, the more I like it! Glad you like the other photos, though. Funny, you liked the ones I didn't like that much ;)

@est. =]: Thanks for the suggestion, I actually did try brightening the photo up, but it didn't look right :( Glad you like the other photos! I'll check out yours too :)

@The Velvet Bow: Thank you! Yes, of course :) I boosted up contrast in photoshop, did curves to push the colors, and color balance. I never do much photoshop, it's not really a secret!

Oh girlie, the last image is my favourite, I love and adore the movement, her focus to the right, the atmosphere is utterly gorgeous. It's like the last scene in a dramatic film. You're going to be a top photographer one day xoxo

These photos are gorgeous. Yes, sunshine-y days might be the best, but I think the cloudiness and fog were perfect for this shoot. The grey day really makes the model stand out.

That beach looks amazing. I'm in the city and it's grey and rainy at the moment! Ugh, grim.

Talented Photographer, not the best model. She's rough/masculine looking, which can work with other styles of photography but not if you are aiming for a light romantic feel.

The Drifter and the Gypsy on July 15, 2010 at 2:06 PM said...

@Anonymous: Thank you! I think she is very edgy looking, but still pulls off the romantic look well. I don't have many model contacts and I am just happy to have her to work with. I'm going to try other styles of photography with her in the future, so maybe you will like that more?
